For a custom made silver ring we would recommend that you leave it un-plated. This because the anti-tarnish effect of plating on silver is temporary, the plating will wear off over time and that wear off will happen in patches. So the tarnish will appear unevenly too and cleaning such a tarnished silver ring would pose a serious challenge. On the other hand cleaning an un-plated silver ring will be simple - just remember to do the cleaning and polishing, just as the tarnish sets in. Cleaning tarnish that has been formed for a long time, would not be very easy.
